Simon is global in viewpoint but local in impact. He has been an innovation executive, consultant, and strategy facilitator in Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and North America. He has also worked as a journalist and international spokesperson for major humanitarian organizations in conflict zones.
Mirela is a talented bi-lingual facilitator, educational researcher and pedagogical adviser, she holds a Bachelor of Linguistics and French Language, a Masters and Ph.D. Applied Linguistics from the University of Toronto. She also has a Pédagogie numérique certifiée.
Mirela completed her PhD at the Department of French Studies, University of Toronto. Her thesis, partly supported by SSHRC and OGS grants, focused on the sociolinguistic and psycholinguistic factors linked to L1 attrition in adult immigrants.
She has taught various applied linguistics, didactics, and French as a second language courses at the University of Toronto, Brock University, York University – Glendon Bilingual Campus. She has worked on the language curriculum design and teaching for a plurilingual heritage secondary school in Toronto. She was previously the Course Director - of La Sociolinguistique et le monde francophone at Brock University and a Researcher at York University's Glendon Accelerator for Innovation and Best Practices in French Teaching.
Her previous quality assessment work experience includes participating in the Accreditation Review Panel for the Bachelor of Arts in Applied Linguistics Department of English at Prince Sultan University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Mirela has also revised professional development programs for elementary and secondary French teachers through an initiative funded by Canadian Heritage and the Ontario Ministry of Education. She is currently an associate researcher and co-lead for the project Increasing FSL Teacher Effectiveness through Open Education (OE), funded by the Ministry of Colleges and Universities.
